Burgreens Organic Eatery: At Organic Klub, Tebet

Currently, Burgreens has three branches: Burgreens Bintaro (South Tangerang), Burgreens Tebet (Central Jakarta) and Burgreens Express Dharmawangsa (South Jakarta). Another Burgreens Express will open soon in Pacific Place Mall, SCBD (South Jakarta). Check out the locations below.

Here at Tebet, the restaurant is located above—at the second floor— of Organik Klub, an organic produce store, which is at the first floor of the building. Organik Klub sells everything organic, starting from vegetables, nut milks, home-made vegan cheese, snacks, other cooking/baking ingredients, etc. It also supplies organic produce for Burgreens.

When I first arrived, the first thing I noticed was the "Organik Klub" sign. The "Burgreens" sign wasn't really eye-catching, as it was written in a smaller font compared to the "Organik Klub", but I knew right away that I had arrived at the right place. To reach the restaurant, I had to go up a couple of stairs at the exterior of the building, and on the way up there are signs leading to the restaurant—it might be simply complicated.

The restaurant only occupies a small space in the building. The interior is simply fancy in its own way, and somewhat has a "homey" ambience. The furnitures are made of wood with a touch of colours, and a few vivid-coloured cushions decorated the sofa-seats. The serving station is separated from the dining space by built-in racks with a display of healthy snacks and spreads for sale. A colourful chalky list of "Alkaline diet" food chart scribbled on a large blackboard hung at a side of the room adds a decorative finish to the dining space. The rest of the seats are located outdoor on the balcony, and as the day gets dark, fairy lights start to glow below the canopy.

As suggested by the full name, Burgreens is a restaurant which serves organic, healthy, all-natural dishes, and they are either vegetarian or vegan (meat-free). All the foods are freshly home-made, and they are completely free from palm oil, refined sugar and MSG. The ingredients they use are all non-GMO (for example, they produce their own tempeh using non-GMO soybeans). They also offer dishes with special dietary needs, which they could be gluten-free or nut-free (for those who suffer allergy for these), paleo, or even raw, which is usually consumed during detox/body cleansing process.

Burgreens offers a wide variety of unique plant-based menu, which means a good news for all vegetable lovers, because their dishes would absolutely be loaded with vegetables—and they're organic, for sure! Their dishes are simply well-presented, and just like local-food restaurants, they cover the serving plates with banana leaves. I love the way they wanted to prove that healthy foods do not always taste awful, or more commonly, people say they are usually "flavourless". Their dishes are invented by a certified "green chef", Max Mandias, and they are cooked with plenty of herbs and spices to make them rich in flavour, all in correct proportion. Along with a simply fine presentation, they guarantee you an appetizing plant-based healthy dish which would absolutely impress carnivores! Hence, Burgreens' motto is "I taste naughty but am actually healthy."

Burgreens proudly recommend their burgers if you want to have a fully plant-based meal for the first time there. Their burgers have been titled as "Indonesia's first awesome, healthy veggie burgers"—the patties are plant-based/vegan. They are not made of the usual synthetic meat you find in almost all vegetarian restaurants, but they are home-made and all-natural, using organic vegetables, beans or mushrooms as the component. Burgreens offers seven different choices of patties in total, and two bun options that you can choose from. The patties are also sold as nuggets, which are smaller in size, and you can buy it frozen for you to keep at home.

Apart from burgers, Burgreens would also recommend you to try the other bestsellers: Burgreens steak, Greenogiri platter, Tempeh gomashio and Burgreens matah salad. On my visit I ordered Greenogiri platter as the main course, which includes tempeh-stuffed organic brown rice onigiris, mushroom skewers seasoned with home-made teriyaki sauce and japanese-inspired organic mixed salad. The portion size is satisfying—just enough for one person. I have also had the other favorites through delivery order and catering.

For dessert lovers, Burgreens also offer raw, vegan, refined-sugar-free desserts and snacks. I ordered Raw Matcho cupcakes for dessert to satisfy my sweet-tooth. Another must-try favourite dessert is the Raw Strawberry vegan cheesecake. Their healthy nastar, which had just been released during the month of Ramadan, is also another favourite snack. Moreover, they also offer several types of different nut spreads, which some are given natural flavours, perfect for topping a toast for breakfast. Burgreens has many different types of healthy drinks available, ranging from smoothies/juices, mylk shakes, cold-pressed juices, etc. Their fruit-and-veggie smoothies/juices are especially refreshing. They even have 70-100% vegetable juices!

In conclusion, from all of the dishes I tried, none of them are disappointing, just as promised by Burgreens. Burgreens offers several catering programs which includes some of the restaurant's favourite main dishes as well, along with other dishes that you could not find in the restaurant.
